In a video message marking the end of the year, the embassy said it was reflecting on key achievements and looking ahead to 2026.

In a statement on the social media, the US Embassy commends Altin Dumani on his exemplary service as SPAK Chief Special Prosecutor.

“The United States commends Altin Dumani on his exemplary service as SPAK Chief Special Prosecutor.  His integrity and courage in holding criminals to account has strengthened U.S.-Albanian cooperation to make us all safer from the scourge of transnational crime and narcotrafficking,” US Embassy said.

“We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with incoming CSP Klodian Braho in his new role at the head of SPAK,” US Embassy concluded its statement.

Prosecutor Klodian Braho was elected to a three-year term, with no option for reappointment. Braho received seven votes from the members of the High Prosecutorial Council, defeating Adnan Xholi, who secured three votes. The vote closes the succession race triggered by the end of Altin Dumani’s three-year mandate.

SPAK Chief Prosecutor received the Anti-Corruption Champions Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., led by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The embassy affirmed its commitment to standing with the majority of Albanian citizens who endorse the new justice bodies and recognize their vital role in upholding democracy.

A day ago, HPC reacted to the allegations levelled by the opposition Freedom Party leader Ilir Meta against the SPAK chairman Altin Dumani.

In response, the High Prosecutorial Council (HPC), the governing and constitutional body overseeing the prosecutorial system, issued a strong statement condemning any attempts to undermine the professionalism of SPAK prosecutors or exert pressure on them. “The U.S. Embassy is deeply concerned by reports of gun shots fired and rocks thrown at Kosovan law enforcement officials near Zubin Potok. These attacks occurred as the sovereign authorities responsible for maintaining peace and security were carrying out their official duties. We strongly condemn this deplorable, unjustifiable violence.  Law enforcement officials are responsible for investigating the situation.  We caution against speculation that would increase tensions and will condemn any efforts to impede this essential work,” U.S. Ambassador said in a statement.

Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, announced at a press conference earlier today that there have been four attacks on police officers in the last three days near the border with Serbia. According to Svecla the latest incident took place on Friday morning when Kosovo police patrols were attacked with hand grenades and an AK-4.

Interior Minister and Kosovo Police director Samedin Mehmeti  condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism.
