Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking in New York, said he suffered the absence of Hashim Thaçi, once a regular guest. He told the gala organised by the Council for Albanian‑American Relations that Thaçi could not be present because this country had betrayed him. Rama added that Joe Biden, who had named Thaçi as ‘the George Washington of Kosovo’, had also betrayed him. While praising General Clark and other American friends for their efforts, he argued that Washington had failed to give Thaçi its full support.

The Prime Minister emphasised that this left him feeling uneasy.

Prime Minister Edi Rama told the gala in New York that his remarks on ‘betrayal’ should not be misunderstood. He said Albanians were small, even when united, but had always celebrated their friendship with the United States. Rama added that he felt betrayed because he was convinced Washington could have done more — above all, by preventing what he called a ‘farce’ from beginning.
