TIRANA, June 24 /ATA-By Maela Marini/ – New Urban Renaissance 2.0 programme, due to be unveiled in early July, will focus on addressing remaining gaps in Albania’s water supply and sewerage infrastructure, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday.

Speaking at an event with local government officials, Rama described Urban Renaissance 2.0 as a broad national initiative encompassing a range of strategic priorities for communities across the country.

“The programme will be officially launched at a local government conference during the first ten days of July,” Rama said.

According to Rama, the programme is being prepared by state institutions in consultation with municipalities under the supervision of the minister responsible for local government affairs.

The government head said one of the initiative’s main objectives is to complete outstanding investments in water and wastewater infrastructure.

“The programme is designed to address several issues that now require a comprehensive approach. First, it will target water supply and sewerage system,” Rama said.

He added that the initiative would seek to provide a comprehensive response to infrastructure needs that remain unmet due to missing segments within the national water and wastewater network.

The programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve public infrastructure and municipal services across the country.

TIRANA, May 21 /ATA/ – Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, also the State Minister for Reconstruction and the Reforms Programme, stated Saturday that a series of ongoing infrastructure projects in Vlora are designed to transform the southern Albanian coastal city into “the most beautiful bridge connecting East and West, the regional and European market.”

Addressing the international conference “Heading to the Future: My City, My Home”, a dialogue platform on community involvement in decision making and future shaping, an event also attended by the Prime Minister Edi Rama, Ahmetaj noted that creating new jobs is no longer the challenge, but finding young boys and girls who would take up such jobs.

According to him, important investments are underway for the cities to be healthier in terms of environment, bigger and more attractive and with better quality of life.

“The global population is expected to grow to 10 billion people by 2050 and 70% of this population will live in cities. The future of human kind is inevitably urban and technological development and digitalization is an unstoppable revolution, essential to guarantee the cities of the future, focused on people and the environment,” Ahmetaj said.

He also noted that building sustainable cities and communities is one of the 17 sustainable development goals included on the United Nations agenda and the role of municipalities in delivering on these goals was inalienable.

Practically, the urban renaissance project is “Albania 2030” with a focus on cities and communities. About $ 600 million was invested and 1,000 projects were implemented across the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the significant impact of the administrative and territorial reform, saying that the state budget transfer to the municipalities in 2022 is 55% higher than in 2015.
