TIRANA, Nov 26 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday that repair work on flood protection embankments is continuing in areas affected by recent heavy rains across Albania, as authorities work to safeguard communities and critical infrastructure.

The government head took to the social media to share updates showing crews reinforcing embankments and waterways in several municipalities.

Rama said teams from the Directorate of Irrigation and Drainage are coordinating closely with Civil Emergency Services, the Armed Forces, and local authorities to mitigate flood risks.

Work is underway along the Devoll and Dunavec rivers, the Kalasa River near Vana Bridge, the drainage canal through Akërnia, Novoselë, and Aliban, and includes repairs to the Belit-Metoq bridge. Engineering battalions are also active in Sarandë, Finiq, Maliq, Laç, and Bovillë.

The main opposition Democratic Party has called for a state of emergency after heavy rainfall caused flooding in farmland, resulting in substantial damage to crops and livestock.
