TIRANA, Jan 3 /ATA/ – The Bënjë thermal baths, one of the most visited tourist sites in southern Albania’s Përmet region, are undergoing a redevelopment process expected to be completed in March.

The works aim to improve visitor services and the surrounding landscape while creating a sustainable tourism attraction.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday shared photos on social media showing progress at the site, which attracts thousands of domestic and foreign visitors each year.

“The Bënjë thermal baths are changing in appearance and conditions to properly welcome the many visitors and tourists to their enchanting natural setting,” Rama wrote.

The rehabilitation project includes upgrades to road infrastructure, lighting and surrounding public spaces, with the goal of creating an integrated tourist area meeting modern standards.

The development is divided into several zones, including parking areas, camper facilities, picnic spaces, an area for the sale of local and artisanal products, bathing pools, an amphitheatre designed for events, and a services area equipped with showers and changing rooms.

The Bënjë thermal springs are located about 14 km from the southern town of Përmet, in the Petran administrative unit, and roughly 3 km from the confluence of the Vjosa River and the Lengarica stream.

The open-air springs have water temperatures ranging between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius and are set amid largely untouched natural surroundings, offering a unique blend of history, adventure and nature.

Përmet continues to attract visitors through a mix of cultural, health and eco-tourism offerings.
