TIRANA, May 5 /ATA/ – The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro promoted Albania as a unique tourist destination and the government policies on sustainable and consistent development of tourism in the country as she addressed the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations specialized agency in New York.

“The philosophy of defining Albania as a unique destination means befriending with the people of this country, who immediately invite you to be part of their world. It means sharing original experiences with them,” Kumbaro said in her remarks at the high-level thematic debate on sustainable tourism and post-pandemic recovery of tourism industry.

Kumbaro noted that apart from the negative impact, the pandemic somehow also had positive effects in terms of the discovery of domestic tourism.

“We hosted 6.4 million tourists in 2019 and 5.6 million in 2021. However, the challenges in the recent years show us that the fight for a better world is not won through numbers, but through solidarity of societies, sustainability, solidarity, and vision for sustainable development,” Kumbaro said.

Tourism Minister presented the stimulating package on strategic investments, adding that Albanian tourism is experiencing a positive trend in terms of extending the tourism season, expanding tourist map and developing agritourism as a model of sustainable development.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro is in New York, where she held meetings with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, President of the UN Secretary General Abdulla Shahit, as well as her counterparts from various countries around the world to discuss ways of cooperation and promote Albania as a destination for tourism investment projects.
