According to data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), the unemployment rate for the population aged 15 and over decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared with the first quarter of 2025. However, compared with the last quarter of 2025, unemployment increased slightly by 0.1 percentage points.

According to the data, citizens’ participation in the labor market remains high. In the first quarter of 2026, 76.2% of the population aged 15–64 was active in the labor market, either employed or seeking employment.

This indicator recorded a 0.5 percentage point decrease compared with a year earlier, but increased by 0.3 percentage points compared with the previous quarter.

 

Meanwhile, the employment rate for the population aged 15 and over stood at 58%. Compared with the first quarter of 2025, employment decreased by 0.3 percentage points, while compared with the fourth quarter of 2025, it recorded a decline of 0.5 percentage points.

INSTAT published the official labour force statistics, according to which, “the official unemployment rate in Albania is 11.3% in the third quarter of 2021. Unemployment decreased by 0.3 percentage points, as compared to the third quarter of 2020, as well as the second quarter of 2021 ”.

According to INSTAT, the official unemployment rate for men is 10.9% and for women 11.7%. Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points for men, and decreased by 0.1 percentage points for women.

Unemployment among young people has also dropped. INSTAT announced that the official unemployment rate for young people aged 15-29 is 19.9%. Compared to the third quarter of 2020, the youth unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2021 decreased by 0.8 percentage points.

Compared to the second quarter 2021, this indicator has not changed.

The unemployment rate for the 30-64 age group is 8.7%. In annual terms, this indicator decreased by 0.3 percentage points, while compared to the previous quarter it decreased by 0.8 percentage points.
