The project will include two underground levels with 117 parking spaces at the southern entrance to Grand Park, near Hiqmet Buzi Street.

The municipality said the project was needed to meet growing demand for parking as the capital’s population and number of vehicles increase.

The development is intended to ease parking demand from visitors to the Artificial Lake while improving access and traffic organisation at the park’s southern entrance, while preserving green and public space.

The facility will include ventilation systems, surveillance cameras, access controls and modern lighting.

The Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected today the construction site, to see closely the work on the implementation of the first phase of the project.

“At the construction site where work is underway on the transformation of the central square into a pedestrian space with underground parking, 40% of the work has already been completed. Underground parking will give a new quality to the historic area, freeing the heart of the city from the stagnation of randomly parked cars,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

In her remarks, Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said that, during the excavations it was discovered that the surrounding walls and the retaining walls of this square date back to 1920, which are related to the beginning of the construction of this square.We have currently concluded a tripartite agreement with archaeologists, in case there will be other findings.” //a.i/
