TIRANA, Oct 24 /ATA/ This week will be dedicated to the United Nations. It will focus on peace, security, human rights, development and environmental protection.

The United Nations week comes in the follow-up to the international cultural weeks which have been taking place for several months and have invigorated the artistic and cultural life, not only in the capital but also in other cities of the country.

The week of the United Nations in Albania (October 24-30) kicked off Monday with the “We the Peoples” exhibition. This is a project of photographer David Cuka, who has a collection of 999 portraits featuring a variety of people from all over Albania, people of all ages, backgrounds, religious beliefs, genders or sexual orientations.

The title of the exhibition is inspired by the preamble to the Charter of the United Nations: the founding document of the UN, which entered into force 77 years ago on October 24, 1945, and begins with the phrase “We the Peoples.”

After its display today, in Scanderbeg square, the exhibition will move to Italia square, Tirana to stay on display from Tuesday, October 25 to Sunday, October 29.

Another interesting exhibition of the photographer Jutta Benzenberg will be on display at Scanderbeg square.

The renowned photographer Jutta Benzenberg partnered with UN Women in Albania to bring to attention the reality of young women who live in remote parts of the country where gender stereotypes and patriarchal norms are still dominant.

The exhibition of Jutta Benzenberg, who has been photographing people around Albania for over 30 years, features 25 photos which give voice to the dreams of women from all over Albania .

The activities as part of the cultural week of the United Nations will take place in Tirana, Puka, Permet and Durrës. /j.p/sm/
