Kumbaro stated that Albania is not merely attending this significant event, but is also joining the Convention on the Law of the Sea and Oceans by committing to governance, sustainable use, and the protection of marine biodiversity together with 60 other countries worldwide.

“From Nice, France, where the Summit on the Law of the Sea and Oceans is being held amid emergency situation caused by climate change, all United Nations countries, under the stewardship of France and President Macron, ratified the Convention on the Law of the Sea and Oceans and the role that each country can play. Albania ratified this convention in the Albanian Parliament last Thursday, and today we are submitting it in the presence of 60 other countries, which was the required number for this convention to take effect,” said Kumbaro.

Minister Kumbaro stated that Albania stands alongside the countries making substantial efforts to protect both the environment and marine ecosystems, while ensuring the sustainable development of the country, its tourism sector, and environmental conservation.

“Albania is not a polluting country on a global scale, nor does it significantly impact climate change, but through its models, it continues to lead discussions—from the last wild river in Europe, the Vjosa River, now a National Park with 480 km of riverine area, to the expansion of protected zones, and finding a fair balance between the sustainable development of tourism, the local agro-tourism economy, and environmental protection,” Kumbaro affirmed.

Kumbaro highlighted that “these instruments, despite the difficult balance for a country like Albania with its small-sized territory, enable it to modestly serve as a model alongside more developed nations that have extended beyond continental borders.”

“We are present and committed to continuing to develop our model so that Albania protects the environment and nature for future generations. This is a responsibility we must fulfill,” Kumbaro stated.
