“In my capacity as the Minister of Justice, I confirmed the rehabilitation and re-socialization policy we pursue in treating the convicts and detainees in Albania and that our detention and penitentiary system is under continued observation of People’s Advocate and Torture Prevention Mechanism, the civil society organizations, as well as the European and international bodies tasked with enforcing respect for the fundamental freedom and rights,” Manja said.

Justice Minister expressed Albania’s commitment to respect legal and international obligations in this area, recognize the shortcomings of the penitentiary system.

“We have nothing to hide. Albania is one of the 15 Council of Europe member states that publish the monitoring report of their observers and look forward to the next SPT report to further improve our penitentiary system,” he said.
