Speaking to reporters after he and President Vjosa Osmani laid a wreath at the statue of Ibrahim Rugova, Kosovo’s first president, the Hovenier said that U.S. wants to see Kosovo succeed.

“The United States is committed to our partnership. We want to see Kosovo succeed,” Hovenier said.

The U.S. Ambassador reflected on the progress Kosovo has made since he arrived in 2021, emphasising his commitment to supporting the country’s sovereignty and stability.

He praised Kosovo’s remarkable transformation over the past decades, from the turbulent 1990s to its independence, calling the progress “a testament to the resilience of the people of Kosovo.”

In a tribute to Rugova, Hovenier acknowledged the former president’s dedication to human rights and the creation of a multi-ethnic, democratic state.

“His insistence on achieving these goals in line with the highest international values has shaped Kosovo’s path forward,” Hovenier added.
