During a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Germany, the U.S. official O’Brien underlined that Kosovo should move forward on the path to the Euro-Atlantic integration process and implement EU-facilitated Dialogue commitments, including urgent progress on the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.

“The United States of America supports Kosovo’s path to Euro-Atlantic integration. To move forward, we need implementation of EU-facilitated Dialogue commitments, including urgent progress on the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities. I discussed the positive steps needed with Kosovo PM Kurti today,” O’Brien said in a post on the social media after the meeting.

“We are monitoring a large Serbian military deployment along the border with Kosovo. We call on Serbia to withdraw forces from the border and continue de-escalation,” Kirby told reporters during a press briefing according to Radio Free Europe.

Kirby was asked whether the large build-up of the Serbian troops near the Kosovo border was signalling preparations for a military invasion.

“We are monitoring. But we can’t say now what is the goal of large deployment of Serbian military forces,” he said.

However, Kirby went on saying, “the large deployment of troops is a destabilizing development.”

Kirby also said that at a phone conversation earlier today, the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to deescalate tensions.

The United States has condemned the attack on Kosovo police in Banjska, Zvecan municipality, in northern Kosovo on September 24.

In an exclusive interview for Context political show at Kosovo’s ATV, the USAID Administrator affirmed that the United States of America is a staunch defender of Kosovo’s interest.

“It is appropriate for the EU to lead the dialogue process because of Kosovo’s ultimate destination. U.S. is closely cooperating with Mr. Lajcak and I think it is important for the Kosovo people to know that the U.S. is defender of their interest and is doing so for a long time now. Friendship between our two people is unwavering,” Power said.
