TIRANA, Dec 1 /ATA/ Albania’s largest shipment of maritime export has started on Wednesday in Saranda. The map of Albanian exports, which has expanded from 3 countries in 2013 to 27 destinations, includes even Japan.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, Ambassador of Japan in Tirana, Takada Mitsuyuki, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca attended the demonstration that took place in Saranda, at the tuna farm on the occasion of the start of direct export of fresh Tuna fish.

Rama pointed out that “the Albanian fishing industry has become very competitive in the international market and after fivefold increase in its exports in the first two terms of office, we aim at twofold expansion of Albanian seafood exports in the third term.”

For his part, Ambassador of Japan praised the good work of the fisheries company run by the Albanian entrepreneur, Gjergj Luca.

“This is a new challenging business in Albania and I am sure that this business can contribute to bilateral trade volume given that it is a sustainable business,” he said.

The Japanese Ambassador also expressed his conviction that this venture will attract other investments from Japan to Albania.

The tuna farm in the Ionian Sea is built and managed in line with the necessary standards which are suited to the Japanese market.

Albania aims to become one of the largest centres in the Mediterranean for raising and exporting Tuna fish.

In recent years, a number of fiscal incentives have been introduced to kickstart the fisheries sector, such as the scrapping of excise duty on fuel, of carbon tax, zero VAT on nets, trawlers, electronic equipment, zero VAT on refrigerators, engines of fishing vessels.
