TIRANA, Sept. 9 /ATA/ – Klevis Qose, director-general of Albania’s Police Oversight Agency, met on Wednesday with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Global Partnerships, Ambassador Paolo Zampolli, to discuss security cooperation and efforts to combat fentanyl and drug trafficking.

The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, including Albania-U.S. relations and the contribution and expertise of U.S. partners in intelligence and security, the agency said.

Zampolli conveyed Trump’s position that fentanyl is among the most dangerous drugs and poses a serious threat to human life because of its severe consequences and the large number of deaths it causes, Qose said.

The sides stressed the importance of prevention, information sharing and closer cooperation between Albanian institutions and U.S. partners, he added.

The meeting also touched on the appointment of a new U.S. ambassador to Albania, which the sides viewed as an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination, particularly on security.

“Albania and the United States remain important and reliable partners, united by a strategic relationship and a shared commitment to strengthening security and combating organised crime and drug trafficking,” the Police Oversight Agency said.
