It is coated with snow this January offering a spectacular view, a unique experience for climbers, but also for mountain lovers.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media a view from “Maja e Hekurave” where a group of climbers have reached the summit, and where one cannot help but wonder how they managed to get there.

The Albanian flag could not be missing on “Maja e Hekurave” like in every other achievement where the national symbol shows pride.

“Maja e Hekurave” has an altitude of 2561 meters in the heights of the Valbona valley.

The numerous glacial cirques, which extend almost on all sides, have given the peak a sharp pyramidal shape. The surrounding area still preserves the wild nature, rich biodiversity and the characteristic traditions of Tropoja. The visitors have the opportunity to combine alpine adventure with hiking on mountain trails, exploring the fauna and flora and getting acquainted with Albanian culture and tradition. /e.i/j.p/p.s./

Today, in the city of Bajram Curri there was held the “Chestnut Festival”, a beautiful tradition that promotes local products and the unique values of the area.

The representatives of institutions, farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans and many visitors participated in this activity and shared the festive atmosphere and pride in the natural wealth of Tropoja.

As part of the festival, there was organized a fair with traditional products and dishes prepared with chestnuts, as well as with local handicrafts, creating new opportunities for cooperation and trade for local producers.

Mayor of Tropoja Rexh Byberi emphasized in a post on social networks that, “The chestnut of Tropoja remains a valuable agricultural asset with high bio-genetic values and a direct impact on the economic development of the community.”

“Promoting local products is and will remain a priority, to strengthen the farmers’ economy and to turn this natural asset into a strong point of our identity,” said Byberi.

Tropoja chestnut ecosystem is the largest in the Balkans. It consists of a cultivar with high bio-genetic values and in addition to its impact on the local economy of the area, the Tropoja Chestnut Massif is also an attraction for nature tourists. /k.s/a.f/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, June 9 /ATA/ Albania possesses the largest massif of chestnut trees in the Balkans, of which over 2,400 ha are located in the Northern region of Tropoja.

To protect this natural and economic asset, Albania’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is implementing a biological control program in cooperation with FAO.

The program has in its essence the use of Torymus sinensis, another wasp that parasitizes the chestnut gall wasp. This means the Torymus sinensis wasp lays its eggs inside the larvae of the chestnut gall wasp, ultimately killing them and reducing the population. The useful insect is grown in Tropoja laboratory and it is spread further in Tropoja and Malësi e Madhe.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Arian Jaupllari together with representatives from FAO and local entities involved in the collection and marketing of chestnuts, visited the laboratory and participated in the release of the next batch of beneficial insects in the chestnut massif of Tropoja.

The biological control program aims to help farmers in this region maintain their livelihoods and protect the region’s chestnut ecosystem.

This initiative also aims to maintain chestnut production and strengthen the rural economy through sustainable solutions./p.s./

TIRANA, May 4/ATA/ The leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha held a rally in Tropoja region, in context of the May 11 Parliamentary election campaign. Berisha addressed the rally held in the main square of Bajram Curri city saying that Prime Minister Edi Rama has discriminated the north of Albania.

Berisha said that, “The Democratic Party is a traditional political force that believes in tradition and our tradition is family”.

“I come today to the great Tropoja by nature, by history, by the soul and heart of its inhabitants. I say again and again that if I were to choose my birthplace, I would never choose another place other than Tropoja”, said Berisha.

But, according to him, the greatness of Tropoja has declined during the last 12 years, as rarely ever in its history. “This land blessed with so much wealth is abandoned every month by its sons and daughters, leaving Albania,” said Berisha.

He added that the, “DP-Great Albania” coalition appears with a new project for Tropoja.

“We want Tropoja and Albania, the inhabitants of Tropoja and all of Albania to live freely, with dignity, to prosper more and more every year. Its resources must to be transformed into benefits for the families, for the citizens of Tropoja and Albania,” said Berisha. /p.s./

TIRANA, March 7/ATA/ The government has given the priority to mountain tourism and investments for its revitalization while undertaking incentive policies to support these investments.

The “Mountain Package” is one of the incentives which provides support for investments in these areas, aiming to encourage local residents to invest in their properties.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media the successful model of an agro-tourism in the mountains of Tropoja, built by two brothers who returned from emigration.

Kreshnik Nikoçi, together with his brother Ermal, decided to return to their native village, in Velisht, Tropoja, where they invested in a guesthouse on the hill that has become a welcoming home for hundreds of tourists from all over the world.

Kreshnik said that after 5 years in emigration, he returned to his hometown with his brother, where he also opened a guesthouse.

“With the increase in the number of tourists, we are earning more and more every year, more than abroad,” he said.

Kreshnik called on every young person to return to their country, where their heart is and where there are more opportunities.

“Albania offers endless opportunities for those who have the will and desire to work,” he said.

The “Mountain Package” will, in addition to the sustainable development of the rural economy, have an impact on the promotion of “Made in Albania” products, and will also expand the tourist map.

This initiative envisages easier procedures for ownership and construction, as well as a stimulating fiscal policy. /a.f//r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, December 23/ATA/ Shkodra and Tropoja will be connected through Ndermaja Pass-Peraj road.

Socialist Party MP Pandeli Majko said that this road will be built by the Albanian Development Fund.

“In Tropoja, the Albanian Development Fund confirmed the agreement with the municipality of Tropoja, in the realization of the investment in Ndermaja Pass – Peraj road (Lekbibaj unit). This road will connect Shkodra (Theth) with Lekbibaj and Bajram Curri”, said Majko.

For years now, the National Park in the Northern Alps, with Theth and Valbona, have been ranked as the perfect choice for nature enthusiasts who want to experience unique hospitality.

The Albanian Alps lie north of the Drin River and west of the lower reaches of the Valbona River (a branch of the Drin). They include the northern part of the country and occupy about 8% of it. They have a very isolated geographical position because the roads that connect them to other regions of the country and Albanian territories beyond the border are few and in poor condition. /a.f/p.s./

“The geographical position, climate, cultural heritage assets, hunting areas, characteristic villages as well as the traditional hospitality of the inhabitants of this region offer quality mountain tourism. Year after year, the interest in certain areas has been increasing, where, in addition to the Valbona National Park, there has also been interest in the area of the Gashi River, Upper Curraj and our wonderful mountains”, said Imeraj.

In recent years, Tropoja has been visited by thousands of local and foreign tourists in every season of the year. The Valbona Valley, part of the Albanian Alps National Park, remains one of the most favorite destinations for tourists and mountaineering enthusiasts.

Prime Minister Rama, during the meeting with the Albanians in the States a few days ago, said that the North of the country remains the most precious mine of tourism for Albania, while he assured that the investments in the roads will continue.
