TIRANA, June 24/ATA/ At the Academy of Sciences, there was held today the scientific conference “100 years since Justin Godart’s trip to Albania”.

Acad. Pëllumb Xhufi, head of the Social and Albanological Sciences section at the Albanian Academy of Sciences spoke about the great role played by Justen Godart (November 26, 1871 – December 12, 1956) in a difficult time, when France had malicious intentions and made the image of Albania surrounded by a harmful and prejudicial propaganda of many eastern and western political currents.

Akad. Xhufi said that Justin Godart strongly raised his voice for Albania to be admitted to the League of Nations.

Acad. Xhufi said that Godart defended the issue of St. Naum in the League of Nations, and called it a disaster that the great powers gave to Serbia unjustly. On May 24, 1921, Albania was admitted to the League of Nations thanks to the contribution of Justen Godart.

Dr. Ardit Bido, Director of the Archives, spoke about Godart’s role in enriching the Albanian archives.

Prof. as. dr. Esmeralda Kolaneci – University of Tirana, spoke about the report compiled by Godart with 11 chapters that contained realistic arguments.

“His article inferred that Albania was a victim of the territorial ambitions of its neighbours and the responsibility for the difficulties that appeared to resolve the situation was attributed to the opposing policy of the headquarters of Athens and Belgrade. Although the French politician was aware that not everyone would welcome and accept the content of the report, and that criticism or controversy would be intense, he preferred to stand by Albania and its truth, convinced that his vision for the issue “Albanian law and international legal law and principles would prevail in any interpretation and decision of what was called the” decision-making nucleus “of European diplomacy,” said Kolaneci.

On occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Independence of Albania in 1937, King Zog decorated Justin François-Pierre Godart with the “Order of Skanderbeg”.

Godart was elected by the French friends of Albania, honorary president of the France-Albania association. The Presidium of the People’s Assembly praised J. Godart by decorating him with the “Order of Freedom- First Class “./p.s./
