TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/ – Albania began the vaccination of public transport workers at the vaccination site at Tirana’s main Skanderbeg square on Wednesday, as the country is further expanding and speeding up the mass immunisation programme.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu attended the start of the vaccine rollout for the essential transport workers.

Speaking to reporters, the government head said that the Technical Committee of Experts will announce a new plan to further relax the COVID-19 restrictions and measures.

PM Rama said that the health situation is optimal in the framework of the strategy and the action plan.

“The situation is optimal in the framework of the strategy and action plan against COVID-19, yet it is very important we still lack 100% predictability about the path towards ultimate and final exit from this tunnel and therefore we need to continue be very cautious,” Rama said.

“The Committee of Experts will announce the new plan soon to further relax measures and our ambition is to ensure a more relaxed tourism season and I am confident we will deliver on this goal,” he said.

The government head declined to comment on the U.S. State Department decision to designate former President and Prime Minister Sali Berisha “persona non grata”, saying he is “100% focused on the work to press ahead with the mass vaccination and the post-earthquake reconstruction programme.”
