TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ In its role as the country holding the rotating Presidency of the Transport Community for this year, Albania chaired today’s regional dialogue on European integration and the development of modern infrastructure in the Western Balkans.

At the 9th Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels, the countries of the region discussed progress, challenges, and common priorities within the transport sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Albanian Presidency, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enkelejda Muçaj, emphasised Albania’s commitment to advancing the process of alignment with the European Union acquis, as well as accelerating the region’s integration into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
According to her, modern and interconnected infrastructure is essential for economic development, boosting competitiveness, and preparing the countries of the Western Balkans for EU membership. Muçaj emphasised that the priorities of the Albanian Presidency remain: the continuation of policies and projects already initiated; the implementation of reforms and commitments undertaken within the framework of the Transport Community; and the increased impact of connectivity projects in the transport sector.
She placed special emphasis on strengthening regional cooperation for a greener, safer, and more inclusive transport system, stating that the transformation of the transport sector is a prerequisite for the sustainable development of the region.

In her closing remarks, she reiterated Albania’s commitment to being a steadfast promoter of European integration and regional development, emphasising that the country will continue to lead the cooperation processes within the Transport Community with both responsibility and foresight.
