TIRANA, Dec 16 /ATA/ – Albania has launched an upgraded “Transparent Albania” online portal aimed at centralising public information and improving access to documents and decision-making, State Minister for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the seventh National Conference on the Right to Information, Pirdeni described the event as a test of Albania’s commitment to transparency and good governance.

She said the upgraded portal is designed to address a long-standing problem whereby public information exists across institutions but is often fragmented, poorly organised and difficult for citizens to access.

According to Pirdeni, “Transparent Albania” will serve as a single gateway not only for budget transparency but also for all institutional transparency programmes prepared under the access-to-information law, in line with guidelines issued by the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection.

For the first time, the platform will also allow citizens to submit information requests directly to access-to-information coordinators at each institution and to track the status of their requests, she said.

Pirdeni added that the system would help authorities identify which ministries are meeting transparency obligations and which need to improve response times to avoid complaints reaching the commissioner.

She said the portal is expected next year to link to a new section on the prime minister’s website providing updated information on EU accession negotiations, a process she described as complex but requiring public oversight.
