Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku closely inspected today the works on this road.

Balluku spoke of the plan for the construction of Corridor VIII.

“We have a big plan in terms of the Corridor VIII network, both with the railway and with the road infrastructure. It should be taken into account that it is one of the most important corridors and already recognized by the NET COR of the EU at the beginning of November”, said Balluku.

Balluku added that a memorandum has already been signed with North Macedonia and Bulgaria to coordinate efforts to find funding.

“Corridor VIII becoming part of the EU’s NET CORe, we have the opportunity to benefit from EU grants for infrastructure, especially the railway one,” said Balluku.

This segment, Balluku emphasized, is also the first segment of the Corridor.

Balluku said that, “The road is of category B with 2 lanes on each side with lane dividers and all road parameters”.

On his part, Head of Albanian Road Authority Evis Berberi said that today the works are continuing at the Xibraka exit junction.

He said that in addition to the road, there are also being made investments for flood protection, since the construction site is near the Shkumbin River bed. /p.s./

It is about an investment worth 15.5 million USD which will bring about a sustainable transformation, turning the city of Pogradec into a much more preferred tourist destination for local and foreign visitors.

There have been approved 3 projects for this area. The park of Drilon, worth 5.5 million USD, is financed by the Albanian-American Development Fund; there is planned rehabilitation of the entire park up to the springs of Zagorçan (Guras), the rehabilitation of the façades of the buildings of Tushemisht, as well as three public car parks and a visitor center.

Also, with the support of the Albanian government through the Albanian Development Fund, there has been approved a fund worth 4 million USD which is currently in the procurement process, for the implementation of the “Tushemisht Promenade from the Drilon bridge to the Tushemisht customs point” project.

Meanwhile, the “Tushemishti Ring Road” project, which starts from the Drilon Bridge and passes from the springs of Zagorçan to end at the customs point, has also been financed with a value of 6 million USD by the Albanian government through the Albanian Development Fund and is expected to start implementation within the fall.

Prefect Jole stated that the project idea was presented to the director of AADF and the board of this foundation in 2016, together with the Minister of Urban Development Eglantina Gjermeni. “At that time, this project received the approval of the Board for funding and it is excellent news that today the project is in the implementation phase”, added Prefect Jole. /j.p/p.s./
