TIRANA, Feb 27 /ATA/ The Albanian government remains fully committed and ready take all necessary steps to stamp out the phenomenon of human trafficking. The Ministry of Interior currently leads the anti-trafficking campaign, bringing the actors together in awareness-raising activities to highlight the human and educational dimension. Interior Minister Taulant Balla said, during a consultative roundtable on the Action Plan for the Fight Against Human Trafficking 2024-2025, that he strongly disapproves of holding campaigns against trafficking on certain days, when it comes to the approach to violence.
“In my opinion, this phenomenon should be fought every day of the year without any break, and therefore the draft National Plan for the Fight Against Human Trafficking, which will be discussed today, is also an expression of institutional political commitment and without doubt of financial commitment that we must undertake in the fight against trafficking,” the minister said in the meeting with representatives of the OSCE, the US and British embassies in Tirana.
During the launch of the objectives of the National Strategy against Organized Crime, Balla underlined the efforts to minimize the threat and influence of organized crime and serious crimes, by cracking down on illegal traffic; secondly, the protection of citizens, institutions and economy of the country, preventing the threats of organized crime and serious crimes, as well as the development of stable regional and international partnerships.
“Unfortunately, human trafficking is a modern-day crime that knows no borders, age or gender and affects in most cases the vulnerable, exploiting their hopes and dreams to turn them into victims of unimaginable cruelty. This crime undermines the principles of humanity, robbing individuals of their dignity and freedom,” the minister underlined.
Therefore, he said, public institutions at the central and local level, international organizations, civil society, justice bodies, academia and every citizen should cooperate on a frontline to respond in time to every victim of trafficking.
“We need to offer victims of trafficking the necessary services, support, protection, sustainable social and economic re-integration and above all to restore the dignity taken away, investing in proactive investigation and punishment of traffickers. Prevention and awareness are also elements that must go hand in hand in the joint action,” Minister of Interior said./sm/
