TIRANA, Sept. 26 /ATA/ – State Police has drawn up a security plan for tonight’s UEFA Nations League match between Albania and Belarus at Tirana’s Air Albania Stadium on Saturday evening, with traffic restrictions to be imposed on several roads around the venue.

The restrictions will be in place from 5 p.m. until the end of the match, which kicks off at 8:45 p.m., police said.

The affected roads include Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, Papa Gjon Pali II, Dervish Hima, Asim Zeneli, Themistokli Gërmenji, Ismail Qemali, Lekë Dukagjini and Abdyl Frashëri streets, as well as roads around Wilson Square.

Elbasan Road, the Ring Road and Bajram Curri Boulevard will remain open to traffic.

Police, working with Tirana’s municipal police, said hundreds of officers would be deployed to maintain public order and security before, during and after the match.

Fans will undergo security checks before entering the stadium to prevent prohibited items, including racist banners, fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics, metal coins, umbrellas, lighters, phone chargers and other potentially dangerous objects from being taken inside.

Police urged fans to arrive at the stadium from 6:30 p.m. to avoid delays caused by congestion near kick-off.

TIRANA, Oct 20 /ATA/ – The annual Tirana Marathon, the biggest sporting event in Albania, kicked off on Sunday morning, drawing around 5,000 athletes from across the globe.

Some 1000 professional runners from many countries across the world will compete in the eighth edition of the race in the Albanian capital.

The event, which began at 9:00 a.m., is set to run until 4:00 p.m., with participants competing in four main categories: full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), Tirana 10K, and the “We Too” 5K.

Authorities have implemented traffic restrictions in order to ensure smooth conduct of the marathon. Tirana Municipality, in collaboration with the State Police, has compiled a set of measures to reroute traffic amid temporary road closures, public bus diversions and traffic ban.

A special traffic diversion plan is in place, affecting both private vehicles and urban transport routes across the capital until 4:00 p.m.

Fun Run Tirana race took place ahead of the main marathon on Saturday, bringing together more than 2000 nine-year schoolchildren and high school students, who ran along Tirana’s main Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard, extending awareness message for youth education through sport.

This year’s marathon is a key event in Tirana’s growing reputation as a regional hub for sports and tourism.

This event, which is now becoming a tradition, is organized with the approval of two new itineraries from the World Athletics Federation, giving the reliability of an international activity and with the support of the Albanian Athletic Federation.
