TIRANA, Sept 8 /ATA/ – Work is underway on building a Road Traffic Control Center in Tirana, a facility ue to be equipped with the best innovative technologies to collect traffic information and manage road traffic as Albania is making efforts to employ an intelligent road traffic control to boost safety and security across the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, inspected Friday the progress of work on the site where the Road Traffic Control is being constructed.

The Deputy PM Balluku noted that the Road Traffic Control Centre is one of the most interesting projects being implemented by the General Directorate of Road Transport Services and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Economy as the country is making efforts to meet the mandatory safety requirements and European Union road standards in Albania.

“Given that Albania has become part of the pan-European corridors, with construction of the Blue Corridor and Corridor 8th including Albania on the European map of road traffic management, we should also respond by setting same safety and security standards through the Road Traffic Control Centre,” Balluku said.

The facility will cover an area of 1500 m2, whereas an additional 500 m2 underground construction floor will house servers and technical materials.

Balluku said that the centre is expected to become fully operational in January 2024.

The Centre will help Albania’s main transport corridors become part of a safe, integrated and multimodal inter-European transport system.
