TIRANA, Aug 15 /ATA/ Turkey continues to be an important partner of Albania in international trade.

The Institute of Statistics recently published a report on foreign trade for the January-May period, according to which, Turkey ranks as Albania’s fourth-largest trading partner, accounting for 7.4% of the total trade volume.

Trade exchanges with Turkey over the first five months of this year amounted to 38.4 billion lek.

According to data for the January-May period, Albanian exports to Turkey totaled 2.1 billion lek, up from 1.8 billion lek in the same period of 2024, while imports during the five-month period reached 36.2 billion lek.

Between January and May, Albania imported construction materials and metals worth 12.7 billion lek from Turkey, as well as textiles and footwear valued at 4 billion lek. Additionally, imports of chemical and plastic products amounted to 4.9 billion lek.

The primary exports include minerals and metals, aromatic and medicinal plants, as well as garment manufacturing products.

Albania and Turkey have a free trade agreement in place, signed in 2006 and enforced in May 2008, which increases trade opportunities between the two nations.

Albanian exporters are able to derive benefits from the free trade agreement between Albania and Turkey, allowing them to export a diverse range of Albanian products to the regional market either duty-free or within established tariff quotas.

Exports of industrial products of Albanian origin are fully liberalized. Meanwhile, for agricultural products, the parties have mutually granted each other preferential tariffs and tariff quotas.
