The active enterprises operating in trade activity registered in 2021 account for 29.9% of total registered enterprises. Trade activity had the highest annual turnover of 39.6%, according to the National Institute of Statistics, INSTAT.

About 85.6% of active enterprises are small enterprises with 1-4 employed. Their contribution on employment is estimated at 21.7% and they have an annual turnover of 17.8%.

Enterprises with 50 and more employed represent 1.7% of total number of enterprises, employ 51.1% of total number of employed and realize 46.5% of the total annual turnover. In the prefectures of Tirana, Durrës and Fier are concentrated about 64.1% of active enterprises.

The largest number of enterprises is registered in the prefecture of Tirana with 54,641 enterprises, while the lowest number in the prefecture of Kukës with 1,261 enterprises.
