TIRANA, Nov 8 /ATA/ – The use of registered pesticides and adherence to proper application practices were the central focus of a meeting convened by the National Food Authority (AKU) with stakeholders including collectors, exporters, importers, and farmers.

The meeting, which also included officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other relevant institutions, aimed to address key challenges in pesticide use.

In a social media post on Saturday, Food Authority emphasized that “the main issue remains the use of unauthorized pesticides by farmers and where they source them.”

The meeting stressed the need for collection points to strengthen their criteria and ensure full documentation for traceability of products, including the necessary analysis reports.

A particular focus was placed on agricultural pharmacies and large distributors, who are required to sell only pesticides authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. These suppliers must also educate farmers on the correct use of pesticides, including quantities and waiting periods, to guarantee food safety.

AKU reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting consumer interests through strict enforcement of food safety regulations. The authority stated that food safety remains a shared challenge and a top priority.
