TIRANA, March 5 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama hailed Albania’s top ranking as the world’s fastest-performing tourist destination in 2024, sayign the country’s tourism boom was a result of his government’s vision and strategic alliance with entrepreneurs.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Albania recorded an impressive 80% surge in international arrivals since 2019, leaving Saudi Arabia (69%) and Colombia (37%) trailing.

“Success of Albania’s tourism is an outcome of the government’s vision, program and persistent work, as well as the strategic alliance with Albania’s small and big entrepreneurs,” PM Rama said.

Responding to comments on his “Sy m’Sy” social media show, the government head clarified that the UN Tourism report confirms growth in tourist arrivals as compared to previous years, and not in absolute terms.

“Of course, we don’t compare to countries like France or Türkiye in total visitors. But when it comes to who’s growing the fastest, Albania is leading the way,” he said.

PM Rama highlighted a series of investments in infrastructure, tourism and urban revitalization since his government took office.

“Would we see this kind of growth if our airport was still one of the most expensive in Europe? If Tirana was still asleep like 10 years ago? he said.

PM Rama also voiced confidence that his ruling Socialist Party will remain in office after the May parliamentary elections to lead Albania on the path towards eventual accession to the European Union.
