TIRANA, Jan 22 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama revealed on Wednesday that in 2024, 979,456 Albanian residents visited the country’s hotels and guesthouses.
Through a video message, Rama responded to a commenter on social media who, while discussing investments in tourism, stated that “Albania is for foreigners and for a few Albanians.”
“Is that really the case? Do these foreigners bring their own food when they come here, or do they eat at Albanian tables? Do they bring their own beds, or do they sleep in hotels, guesthouses, and homes of Albanians? And another thing, which is quite a surprise actually, when it’s said that Albanians don’t travel for leisure, or that there are no other Albanians in Korça except a few coming from Tirana,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister pointed out the number of Albanians who take vacations within the country or travel for the weekend.

“I’m not referring to those who vacation abroad; I’m talking about Albanians living in Albania. And not those living abroad who visit Albania for vacation. Here’s what INSTAT reports, not the Albanian government: 979,456 Albanian residents stayed in the country’s hotels and guesthouses in 2024. This number doesn’t include those with secondary residences,” emphasized Rama.

The Prime Minister also responded to those who claim that he does not understand reality, drawing attention to how Albania was before the socialist government took office.
“Often, those who do not like the government— and let’s be clear, it’s not a crime not to like the government— use the argument that I am out of touch with reality, while, according to them, reality was bleak. There were no roads, no electricity, no water, no bread. But how do they explain that, when according to them the reality was better until we came and ruined it, Albania was seen as the ‘black sheep’ by most tourists coming from abroad, the vast majority of whom were Albanian emigrants or Albanians from Kosovo and North Macedonia?” said Rama.

Today, Rama highlighted that in addition to the growing number of Albanians from Kosovo and North Macedonia, millions of foreigners have also come.
“I’m not sure, but political resentment can make a person blind and deaf, much like a football fan. Meanwhile, here, we all share one flag—the flag of Albania. That said, ‘you can’t cover the sun with a sieve,’ and the Albanians who fight, work, and truly appreciate what has been achieved through effort and hard work have a clear perspective. This is what matters. They understand the facts and the path toward reaching the goal of joining the European Union by 2030,” emphasized Rama.
