TIRANA, Jan 26 /ATA/ “The Town of Roses” is steadily evolving into a popular tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Alma Hoxha, the Mayor of Përmet, told ATA that “the investments made in recent years in our city have resulted in a notable rise in visitors, from various cities across the country as well as from Europe and other parts of the world. We closed 2024 with a record number of tourists visiting Përmet and its surrounding areas, totaling 155,000.”

According to her, 70% of the tourists are foreigners, and 30% are locals.

In recent years, Përmet has seen a rise in the number of hotels and guesthouses to welcome tourists.

“Both in the city and in the villages, people are converting their homes into guesthouses, as Përmet’s economy has always been closely linked to tourism. Nearly every village has at least one guesthouse,” said Hoxha.

Mayor Hoxha announced that this year, the goal is to attract a higher number of visitors and generate more revenue from tourism.

“Due to the investments that have been made and those that are almost finished, we anticipate an even greater increase in the number of tourists this summer in the Përmet region. Attractions like the Frashëri Brothers Museum, the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War Museum, and other tourist spots in Përmet are expected to see more visitors,” said Hoxha.

The most visited attractions of the past tourist season were: the Vjosa River Valley, the Bënja Thermal Baths, the Nemërçka Mountain Circuit, the Sopot Waterfall, the Historic Neighborhood of the City, the Church of St. Mary in the village of Leusë, the village of Frashër, and more.

To promote the town, the Municipality of Përmet continues to organize a series of activities.

Mayor Hoxha said, “The Day of Spring, Vjosa in Fest, and the Grandmother’s Festival are some of the events held in Përmet, which have attracted a large number of visitors.”

The Përmet region is home to unique natural, historical, and cultural heritage resources that contribute to the development of sustainable tourism.

In Përmet, visitors are truly spoilt for choice with everything from thermal waters to beautiful valleys and unique cultural landmarks.

The churches in the area hold great significance, such as St. Kolli Church, St. Premte Church, St. Mary’s Church in Bënjë, St. Mary’s Church in Kosinë, and St. Mary’s Church in Leusë. Moreover, in Përmet, you can also visit the Alipostivan Tekke, perched on a picturesque hill overlooking the village of Alipostivan.

Another renowned religious and historical landmark in Albania is the Frashër Tekke, constructed in 1781 by Sulejman Beu of Frashër.

In the eastern area, you can explore the Bënja Thermal Waters, famous for their healing properties, as well as the Langarica rock canyons and the Pëllumbave Cave.
