The news was shared by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said that this is a living proof of the existence of ancient Illyrian civilizations and an added value for the heritage of our history, which will soon be part of tours and tour guides.
Rama added that the archaeological excavation was carried out by a team of archaeologists and restorations specialists of the Vlora Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, who also discovered and documented other tombs featuring tiles, dating back to the same period. They are also designing a restoration and museumization project for the monument brought to light.
The monumental tombs have a special architecture and thousands of years of history.
This tomb was claimed to have existed during the archaeological rescue excavations carried out in 2020, when the first monumental tomb in that territory was unearthed.
The discovered objects are mainly fragments of ceramic vessels, a few intact pottery, fragments of glass vessels, as well as metal objects, with a large part of them consisting of nails.
Around the monumental tomb, other tombs with tiles, from the same period, were discovered and documented. In addition to conservation measures, DRTK Vlorë specialists are also designing a restoration and museumization project for the monument.
