TIRANA, October 6 /ATA/ The music of Maurice Ravel and contemporary dance will merge on the stage of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet with two works, ‘Unseen’ and ‘Boléro,’ by choreographer Andonis Foniadakis. The performance is part of the fifth edition of the International Dance Festival in Tirana (IDFT).

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja shared highlights from the performance, describing it as an artistic experience that presents two distinct dimensions of Ravel’s music: ranging from an intimate, reflective atmosphere to the powerful energy of “Boléro.”

While ‘The Unseen’ offers an introspective journey through solitude and deep emotion, ‘Boléro’ builds a rhythmic energy that builds toward a powerful stage finale.

Through choreography, the two works establish a dialogue between music and movement, bringing a contemporary repertoire inspired by one of the 20th century’s most significant composers to the Albanian stage.

The performance will be on Friday, October 9, at 8:00 PM at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, as part of the program for the fifth edition of the IDFT. The event joins the Opera and Ballet artistic calendar and aims to offer the audience an evening where music, choreography and stage performance blend into a unique artistic experience. /p.s./

TIRANA, March 29 /ATA/ – Italy’s La Scala Academy representatives held a meeting with the director of Albania’s Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Abigeila Voshtina, in Tirana on Friday.

Voshtina and La Scala representatives, namely Tommaso Abbiati, Head of Marketing, Fundraising and Sponsoring, and his colleague Letizia Cirri, discussed possible twin relationship between the Theatre of Opera and Ballet and La Scala, a proposal that was enthusiastically welcomed by the Italian delegation.

“Such collaborations, with a focus on young Albanians and foreigners, will further strengthen their potential on the stage of Theatre of Opera and Ballet and beyond. Young artists would be provided the opportunity to enrich artistic repertoire,” the Theatre of Opera and Ballet said in a release on its official website.

La Scala, a historic opera house in Milan, was inaugurated on 3 August 1778. The theatre is regarded as one of the leading opera and ballet theatres globally. The theatre also has an associate school, known as the La Scala Theatre Academy, which offers professional training in music, dance, stagecraft, and stage management.

TIRANA, September 15 /ATA/ The Opera and Ballet House will reopen its doors today after the building reconstruction, in a gala evening, with the participation of the world opera legend Placido Domingo and the famous Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho.

While marking this important cultural event, Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said that, “The reopening of the National Opera and Ballet House is just few hours away”.

After 5 years of closure due to reconstruction, starting today, the Opera and Ballet House will be open to the public with seven premiere shows.

The history of Opera and Ballet House begins in 1950. On November 27, 1953, there was performed the first opera of our stage “Rusalka”, by the Russian composer Alexander Dargomïzhsky. This date went down in the history of Opera and Ballet House as the day of founding of this theater.

As the largest musical and scenic institution in the country, Opera and Ballet House was located in the building of the Palace of Culture in 1966, where it continues its activity today.

In 2015, the Council of Ministers decided that the Opera and Ballet House building would undergo a complete reconstruction.

The Opera and Ballet House has about 250 permanent artists, who are part of the orchestra, choir, ballet troupe, lyrical soloists and the Folk Ensemble.

The Symphony Orchestra has about 50 instrumentalists in its composition. It is the orchestra with the highest level among the Albanian orchestral formations everywhere, receiving very positive evaluations from relevant personalities, Albanian and foreign.

The choir consists of 40 artists. The repertoire of the Opera and Ballet House choir is rich and diverse with both stage and concert works, Albanian and world.

The Ballet Troupe consists of about 40 ballet dancers. This troupe has realized masterpieces of world and Albanian ballets both inside and outside the country and has been awarded with honorary titles, awards, various medals by the Albanian state and beyond.

The troupe of lyrical soloists is composed of 14 artists, who with their wide repertoire and artistic level successfully cope with the titles of operatic calendars. In the body of soloists there are titular artists, but also young ones, enabling a very wide repertoire./a.a/p.s./
