“It is love and empathy that move this city forward. Working together moves this city forward, good people move this city forward. This year was fantastic for Tirana the European Youth Capital. From tomorrow, a new year begins for Tirana, the European Capital of Sport. Yes, the best sport is love for each other, solidarity and cooperation. It doesn’t matter if we are from Tropoja or Tepelena, Christians or Muslims, natives or emigrants, this is our Tirana. And together we make a contribution to carry it forward,” Veliaj said.

Mayor Veliaj said that this is also a moment to overcome any misunderstandings and look to the future.

“Today we count down to close a year and see a fireworks show. I say we should count down to end every argument, every misunderstanding, every pettifogging with each other. We Albanians have more things that unite us than things that divide us. So, my friends, more love, less hate, more cooperation, less obstacles, more focus on the future than the past,” he said.

The Mayor also thanked all those who spend this New Year’s Eve working in the service of the community.
