TIRANA, July 22 /ATA/ Tirana has already become a “magnet” for tourists. Unlike 10 years ago, this year about 7 million passengers landed at Rinas airport.

In the last episode of the podcast, where Prime Minister Edi Rama invited Alvin Karaqi, the winner of the gold medal at the European Olympic Games in Karate, he said that given the number of passengers the time has come for our airport to come first in the region.

“Tirana has become a “magnet” for tourists. All of Albania now. You came in 2005. In 2005, back then it was the time when the airport opened, that is, the new terminal and everything after the communist airport, and in 2013 there were about 300-350 thousand passengers at
Tirana’s airport. This year the airport sees between 6.5 and 7 million passengers and we have practically come to the point for Tirana airport to come first in the region, including Belgrade, which has a large airport. 6.5-7 million is something unthinkable until a few years ago and this figure was recorded in the airport and with the airport of Vlora, it will increase even more because many people who want to visit Albania, especially the Ionian area, for the sake of saving the time will choose to land in this airport. Tirana has seen a record number of Airbnb bookings, in all of Albania the number of reservations is at an all-time high,” said Rama.
However, he admits that more work needs to be done to propel the sector of hospitality to development.

“Yet, we have a long way to go in terms of hotel development and bringing the hospitality to whole new level in order to bring more tourists who will consume more and generate more economy, anyway I think we are on the right path and Dhërmi is one of the top-rated destinations, there is no question about it, Ksamil has also become a major attraction recently, it is literally the golden business card of touristic Albania,” said the Prime Minister.
