TIRANA, Aug 2 /ATA/ – Twelve individuals, including former Environment Minister Lefter Koka, will stand trial as Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution Structure (SPAK) referred the Tirana incinerator corruption case to the court.

SPAK announced Friday that the case centres around misconduct and abuse of office charges in awarding the concession contract for the waste incinerator in the capital, Tirana.

SPAK probe has found that former Environment Minister and other defendants have violated the law during the contract procedures and awarding the Tirana waste incinerator contract to the company Integrated Energy BV.

Prosecutors allege that several high-ranking officials, including the ex-minister, engaged in illegal activities to secure the contract for the company. These actions included bypassing legal procedures and failing to provide necessary documentation.

TIRANA, July 21/ATA/ DP MP Ina Zhupa has asked the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) to continue investigations into the Tirana incinerator.

In a public statement at the Court of Tirana, Zhupa said that, “we are continuing the battle with the incinerator of Tirana, a court battle with the representative of the Democratic Party, Belind Këlliçi after Mirel Mërtiri accusations against public statements we have made related to the incineration of waste at the Sharra landfill.

“We stick to our position that the incinerator in Tirana does not exist, there is no incineration of waste in the city of Tirana. The Rama government and all his structures have been put in the service of transferring public money on behalf of the incinerator of Tirana and the Sharra landfill. The recent environmental crisis they created in Durrës and Kavaja dumping waste on the streets, in the middle of the tourist season, just to justify what we had warned: the allocation of other public money from the state budget for the Tirana incinerator and the Sharra landfill,” Zhupa said.

“Apparently this is a lawsuit where he has sought to plead not guilty, but we stick to our all public statements and ask the SPAK to continue the investigations into the incinerator in Tirana, to hold those people accountable who have been involved in state funds abuse,” she added. //a.i/
