TIRANA, Nov 11 /ATA/ With 255 cartoonists from 53 countries contributing 709 works, the “Niko Nikolla” Cartoon Biennale in Tirana has successfully put our capital on the global cartoon map.

The first theme of the artworks by artists contributing to the world’s largest portals and newspapers that produce universal art featured the life, the distinctive portrait, the curls, and the political and human colors of Dritan Abazovic, the first ever Albanian prime minister of Montenegro, also the novelties introduced by his government and political activism in the region and beyond.

The second theme was coexistence with an inevitable evil, such as digital technology, which over the past 20 years has impacted 50% of the population in the developed world and has transformed societies.

Artists from all over the world—China and Ukraine, Brazil and Indonesia, Serbia and Kosovo—have focused on the portrait of Abazovic, engaging in a play of portraits of a figure who defined a pivotal shift in a historic country like Montenegro.

An international jury, featuring renowned names from the global and regional cartooning scene, chaired by Bujar Kapexhiu, Dean of Visual Arts, and Valentin Pavlov, a well-known Bulgarian cartoonist, among others, awarded the prizes during an event held at the public broadcaster hall.
