TIRANA, Feb 28 /ATA/ The Director of Albania’s Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, announced that starting Monday, timelines will be set for the construction of an alternative road along the riverbed near the railway. The plan is based on geological survey results and requires full mobilization of contractors and institutions. The project is part of Corridor VIII.

The Director of the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH), Ami Kozeli, together with Ergys Verdho, Administrator of Albanian Railways, conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing works in the area known as ‘Arrat e Gurrës’ in Dragostunjë, Librazhd. The intervention continues following last week’s landslide.

At a media briefing, ARA Director Ami Kozeli reported that works are advancing at an accelerated pace, with operations continuing uninterrupted, 24 hours a day. Heavy machinery and additional personnel have been deployed, organized into two 12-hour shifts. Kozeli noted that a substantial volume of soil is being removed daily from the landslide-affected road section, with the objective of stabilizing the slope and creating the necessary conditions for geological drilling.

ARA Director Ami Kozeli highlighted that the Geological Service has identified four specific points for survey drilling. One of these has already been completed, while the second is scheduled for execution today as preparations for the installation of the drill are finalized. The remaining two points are planned to be undertaken tomorrow.

“ARA Director Ami Kozeli stated that contractors, the Geological Service, and all relevant institutions are fully mobilized. He noted that the work plan was discussed this morning and that timelines are being set for the construction of an alternative road along the riverbed, next to the railway.”

ARA Director Ami Kozeli noted that geological survey results may allow for an alternative solution depending on terrain conditions. He clarified that the ongoing works do not alter the Corridor VIII project, and once analyses and interventions are completed, a meeting with all stakeholders will be held to determine a final position.

Albanian Railways Administrator Ergys Verdho stated that, if required, new engineering works such as tunnels or expansions will be built in line with the electrified Corridor VIII project. He added that future plans for this strategic infrastructure segment will be reviewed based on geological survey results.
