TIRANA, October 5 /ATA/ –The representatives from domestic institutions and international partners gathered for a panel discussion on enhancing national resilience and protecting the public information space from hybrid threats, information manipulation and disinformation.

During the discussions, representatives from the National Cyber Security Authority (AKSK), the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEPJ), and the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) emphasized the importance of a comprehensive, coordinated response.

Bledar Kazia, Director General of the National Cyber Security Authority, stated that “The true target of the attacks is public trust.”

Kazia added that technology and the use of artificial intelligence have made information manipulation more sophisticated and scalable. According to him, cyber incidents are often accompanied by targeted disinformation campaigns aimed at the public; the primary target is not merely technical infrastructure, but rather citizens’ trust in democratic institutions and the country’s European path. Kazia highlighted that Albania, as a NATO member and an EU candidate country, is strengthening its defense capabilities, including the establishment of dedicated teams for open-source intelligence investigation.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Megi Fino emphasized that the rapid verification of news, strategic and credible communication with citizens regarding the EU integration process and the deepening of international cooperation with NATO, the EU, and the Hybrid Centre remain key pillars in this process.

“EU integration brings increased attention and potentially makes the region more of a target for foreign manipulation, which requires daily institutional coordination,” said Fino.

On her part, AMA Chairwoman Armela Krasniqi addressed the regulatory challenges facing the media landscape in the digital age.

Krasniqi highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the authority to establish direct channels of cooperation with major global platforms like TikTok and X (Twitter) to address citizen complaints and harmful content.

Meanwhile, Martha Turnbull, Director of the Hybrid Influence Community of Interest at Hybrid CoE, remarked that, “The historical examples we have seen of Iranian cyber activity targeting Albania serve as a truly concrete example.”

“The information environment in which we are currently operating across Europe remains a constant target for hybrid threat actors, particularly regarding disinformation. I would not say that Albania is exempt from this, as I believe all European countries are affected by these threats,” she emphasized. /p.s./

TIRANA, Aug 5 /ATA/ – Albania, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Canada, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Spain, Czechia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America have issued a joint statement on state threats from Iranian intelligence services.

The statement released by the Federal Republic of Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US condemn the growing number of state threats from Iranian intelligence services in our respective territories.

The signatories of the statement consider these types of attacks, regardless of the target, as violations of our sovereignty and are committed to working together to prevent these illegal actions from happening in their respective territories.

“We are united in our opposition to the attempts of Iranian intelligence services to kill, kidnap, and harass people in Europe and North America in clear violation of our sovereignty. These Services are increasingly collaborating with international criminal organisations to target journalists, dissidents, Jewish citizens, and current and former officials in Europe and North America. This is unacceptable.

We consider these types of attacks, regardless of the target, as violations of our sovereignty. We are committed to working together to prevent these actions from happening and we call on the Iranian authorities to immediately put an end to such illegal activities in our respective territories,” the statement concluded.

Bekim Kupina, media advisor to President Osmani, said in a press statement that this week’s threat was just part of the continued threats against Kosovo head of state.

Kupina criticized security authorities for their “failure to act” in these cases.

“Despite dozens of threats – mostly death threats – no actions have been undertaken over the years,” he stated.

According to Kupina, “in most cases, the threats are issued by individuals with names and family names, and identifiable profiles.” However, he declined to provide more details on the threats and the sender.

He said the threat is being treated seriously and has been forwarded to the relevant security institutions.

“The threat was sent to the official email of the President’s office,” Kupina told local media.

TIRANA, October 13/ATA/ During the general meeting of the prosecutors, where three new members of the High Prosecution Council are expected to be elected, General Prosecutor Olsian Çela said that the vetting process has created vacancies in the prosecution body.

He also said that the cooperation between the High Prosecutorial Council and the Prosecutor’s Office should be efficient and according to the provisions in the Constitution.

Another concern expressed by the chief prosecutor is the threat against two prosecutors.

“Everyone has followed with concern the reports about the endangered lives of two of our colleagues due to their duty. While on the one hand these facts are serious and should be punished according to the law, on the other hand they should make us more united with each other and understand that these are obstacles that we can overcome only by staying together, through dedication to the job. This attitude alone will discourage anyone who thinks that through threats or serious acts of violence aimed at the lives of magistrates, they can obstruct justice,” said Çela.

In the end, Çela underlined that the work of the Prosecutor’s Office, beyond the problems, also has achievements.

“There are many reasons why we should be proud of what we do every day in our work. I want to bring to the attention of everyone inside or outside this hall that there are tens of thousands of criminal offenses that are investigated by you and there are tens of thousands of perpetrators who receive punishment every year in the courts thanks to your work”, he said./p.s./
