TIRANA, June 26 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded to claims that the Bënja Thermal Baths have been destroyed, dismissing them as part of a disinformation campaign circulating on social media.

In a post on social media, the prime minister said that over the past 24 hours a “wave of disinformation has spread online, which he said was amplified by algorithms and by “the same foreign hands” that had previously spread false alarms about flamingos.

“For the past 24 hours, another ‘digital rocket’ has been launched, which the algorithm has exploded into hundreds of thousands of likes and curses, over the destruction of the Bënja Thermal Baths, using the same method and with the ‘help’ of the same foreign hands that gave the algorithm a ‘boost’ for an unprecedented sprint in spreading the alarm about flamingos,” Rama wrote.

The PM also shared a video from Bënja on Friday showing the current situation on the ground. The footage shows the pools filled with water and visitors relaxing in the baths.

“Anyone seeking the truth can see it in this video from Bënja today,” Rama wrote.

The Bënja thermal baths area is currently undergoing redevelopment under a project implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, including new access roads, upgraded service facilities, and recreational spaces for relaxation and activities. The project also provides opportunities for cultural events and the promotion of local traditions and the distinctive products of the Përmet region.
