TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ We have to keep going and I strongly believe while we are doing our homework and we are pushing with the reforms and with all the steps needed to reach EU and not because someone there is asking us but because this is what we should do for our next generations, the Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, said today while touching on the issue about the path towards EU integration, at The Economist Events, the 25th Roundtable with the Government of Greece held in Athens on July 8th-9th 2021.

“We have to push much more, within the region and strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation as a whole. Something important happened over the years and is probably is the only good news that we got from the outside of our borders, that by the way are the EU borders, we are surrounded by them and this good thing is names Berlin process”, the premier Rama emphasized.

“What can we do? We must move forward because we have no other alternatives and we do not want to seek for other alternatives,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

“Especially here in Albania, we know that demons exist, we dealt with them in the past and we learned the lesson, the hard way there is no other alternative than to have our own place in this union of peace and safety, and this is the first time in our lifetime as a nation that we can finally choose by ourselves as people are not imposed a place where others choose for us,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

The Prime Minister Rama said that, “Albania has entered a new year of reconnection and cooperation between staffs.”

“I have recently met Zoran Zaev more often than some other ministers. On the other hand, I met with the Serbian counterparts and this is no longer news because it is a new normality. Once upon a time my meeting with Aleksandar Vucic was biggest news one could imagine for many reasons.

“We need to push this process forward, thus, as partners in the region, Serbia and North Macedonia need to promote co-operation and not dissolution in the region, to not create something that runs counter to the region’s vision but to simply lead through good deeds and to explain that this is exactly what our citizens need, what we owe to our people, a life without barriers, exactly the four European freedoms implemented within our region that is expected to become part of the large European family and these freedoms are already present,” the premier Rama added.

“Last, but not least, I would like to conclude that it is really important to have Greece on board in the region,”the premier Rama said.

“Greece, for known reasons had a period of time that was absent, but now that normality is back, growth is back, a lot of dreams and hopes of the Greek people are back as possible, I hope that Greece will be more present and will be more participative, in this whole homework of the region,” the Prime Minister Rama stressed. //a.i/

TIRANA, June 15/ATA/ The Pyramid was built as a cynical celebration of dictatorship, looming for too long as a symbol of the dark past. Now, it is being turned in United States- Albania partnership – into an incubator for innovators, so that Albania’s best and brightest can shape a new future, the US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim said on Tuesday.

The US Ambassador Kim shared today on the social media the article about the transformation of the Pyramid in Tirana published by the weekly news and international affairs publication “The Economist” based in London.

A new lease of life: Tirana’s pyramid
“Crashing and banging, workmen are crawling over the top of Tirana’s most famous, and most eccentric, building. After years of dilapidation Tirana’s pyramid is being restored and given a new purpose.

Enver Hoxha, Albania’s Stalinist dictator, died three years before the Piramida was completed in 1988. But the symbolism was clear: Hoxha was the Albanian pharaoh and the pyramid—co-designed by his daughter and son-in-law—would stand as a monument to his works. But after the collapse of communism in 1991 his memorial centre was closed.

The pyramid has since had many lives, serving as home to trade fairs, a disco called “The Mummy” and, in 1999, a NATO base during the Kosovo war. Now, Erion Veliaj, Tirana’s mayor, argues that while history needs remembering, the building needs a new purpose and meaning. When it reopens, it will have entered the digital age, housing an organisation that teaches young Albanians how to code.”

While, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj said that as history needs to be remembered, the building must have a new purpose and meaning. When reopened, the Pyramid will enter the digital era, becoming the largest center of information technology, welcoming thousands of young people to learn the language of coding, robotics, design and programming.

TIRANA, Feb.4 /ATA/- The Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that Albania has entered the same category as the member states of the European Union and the United States of America in terms of the democracy index, referring to the assessment of the prestigious “The Economist”.

During a press conference, the premier Rama stressed that, one of the main reasons for this improvement of the country in the ranking of this index is precisely the electoral reform much talked about by some people inside and outside the country.

In “The Economist” report on Democracy Index 2020, for the first time in 3 decades, Albania has shown an increase and practically a jump, leaving the category of “hybrid regime” and entering a higher category.

“Actually, “The Economist” analyzed the Albania’s index in 2006 and until 2013 the trend of evaluating the democracy index has been steadily declining,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

According to the Prime Minister, Rama, following the “The Economist” rating, Albania marks the highest achievement so far, in terms of the Democracy Index, as it brings the transition from one category to another one from the classification of democracy point of view.

“We have entered the same classification as the member states of the European Union and the USA, while other countries in the region are still listed in the category of hybrid regimes. Improving the Democracy Index makes us one of the few countries that have improved at a time when many other countries are deteriorating, especially during the global pandemic,” the Prime Minister Rama said.

“The government is praised for the democratizing reform and the promotion of the country’s development. Electoral reform has been also assessed, reform, subject to much discussion, cursed by one party or many domestic and foreign parties. It is considered one of the main reasons for this improvement. Albania, through the reform and the dismantling of the old formula of coalitions and the standardization with each participating states of the OSCE, Albania has entered another class in this aspect as well”, the Prime Minister Rama said.

“The facts speak for themselves, Albania experienced great, double disasters to cope in over a year, the earthquake and the pandemic increases even more in my eyes the value of this assessment in the ranking of the Democracy Index,” the premier Rama added. //a.i/
