TIRANA, June 1 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said that he does not believe that there would be any other state, government and institutions in another state, that would come to terms with the fact that their President be locked up in The Hague without charges for almost a year, as happened to Hashim Thaçi.

In a televised interview, Prime Minister Rama spoke about the meeting in The Hague with Hashim Thaçi.
Rama said that the reason for his visit to The Hague was because he had missed him, a reason he had ticked off in the clearance request form.

Regarding the visit, the Prime Minister expressed his conviction that it was the right thing to do in terms of duty, despite the fact that, as he said, “the internal urge comes down to fraternal and friendly aspect.”

“Hashim Thaçi was on top form physically and emotionally. He looked extremely good, rejuvenated. In fact there is a life there which, beyond confinement, is heavy going, schedules, regime, exercises, readings, lack of work-related stresses and strains, I am not saying he is better there than he would be in Pristina, because I would go too far, but from the psychophysical point of view he was in top form, ” said Rama.

The Prime Minister went on saying that Thaçi is in The Hague as part of one of the most painful and serous but also the most glorious histories, as is the resistance of Albanians in Kosovo, the Kosovo Liberation Army and the story of Kosovo’s liberation from a dependence which seemed inevitable and at the onset of war Hashim Thaçi and others looked like Don Quixote. When the word Kosovo’s independence was uttered, it was the biggest blasphemy, an extended autonomy was at the most, despite the fact that Rrugova had taken a firm line and it was Kosovo’s fate to have Rugova on one side and Thaçi on the other. “Glorious story, but also one of the most painful and serious ever,” said Rama.

“I was impressed by what Thaçi said: ‘if I were to go back 100 times, I would do the same thing 100 times, because I am convinced that it was the right thing to do and if this was the cost to be paid to free from all the speculation and accusations, especially by the infamous Dick Marty, then I’m glad that this cost is also on me instead of my friends although I’m nothing to do with the claims ,” Rama added.

“I do not want to go into comments about Kosovo institutions because it is not up to me. There are many things I would like to say, be it about the court, the institutions or those who rubbed their hands here in Tirana when they saw Thaçi in The Hague, but I prefer not to get out of my role in this case. It is an event that carries great absurdity and I am convinced that it will end with reaffirming the just cause of the Kosovo liberation war and the dismissal of all these accusations. Yet it will remain a skin wound for all those who are forced to go through that ordeal with a mind-boggling number of years and compared to what happened to others before who spearheaded the ethnic cleansing machine, it is completely surreal and inconceivable, ” said Rama.
