TIRANA, Dec 23 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday that Albania’s small businesses will continue to be exempt from profit tax until 2029, highlighting government support for the sector during the presentation of the 2026 Fiscal Package.

Rama said the measures focus primarily on medium and large businesses.

“Of course, we are talking here about medium and large enterprises. Small businesses do not pay profit tax at all. We are the only country on this continent where small businesses are exempt, and this will continue until 2029, as promised,” he said.

He added that the exemption has helped strengthen small enterprises, while businesses exceeding an annual turnover of 140,000 euros will face strict tax administration checks.

“The challenge for the tax administration is to ensure that businesses above the 140,000 euros threshold are not treated as small businesses while they are actually medium or large. There will be no tolerance in this regard,” Rama said.

For businesses above the threshold, the fiscal peace initiative provides an opportunity for self-correction and formalisation of past financial declarations.

The 2026 Fiscal Package aims to strengthen trust between the state and businesses, promote formalisation of the economy, and create a more competitive environment for Albanian enterprises.
