At a meeting with fuel suppliers, the Prime Minister addressed repeated requests to remove the circulation tax from fuel prices.

“There is a recurring request for the circulation tax to be reduced. The circulation tax included in the fuel price is not an issue in itself, because if it is removed from here, it will simply be applied elsewhere. In other words, it will fall directly on the vehicle user in the form of a vehicle tax,” Rama said.

In such a scenario, the Prime Minister emphasized that the tax could increase fourfold, or even up to tenfold in certain cases.

“Currently, if a vehicle owner does not consume any fuel, they do not pay. The philosophy behind including the tax in the fuel price is that the largest polluters should pay more within the pricing structure,” Rama added.
