Judge Matilda Fetahu gave the ruling at the prosecution’s request.

The court decided that Tahiri will serve the remaining part of his sentence at home.

Tahiri was sentenced to 3 years and four months in prison for abuse of office, while he will serve the rest of the sentence, almost 1 year in prison, at home.

According to the ruling, Tahiri is allowed that during the period of stay at home, he can leave his place of residence to meet the necessary family needs for which the Probation Service agrees.

The former minister’s lawyer Maks Haxhia said to reporters after the session at the Court of Elbasan that Tahiri will be released on parole and will have telephone contact with the Probation Service.

“Also, Tahiri is not socially dangerous”, explained lawyer Haxhia.

He added that a medical-legal expertise has been submitted for the former minister, which explains that his wife is not in good health condition and, as a result, there is no one to take care of the children.

“Thus, Tahiri will maintain contact with the probation service, meet family needs, take care for the children and health care for his wife. All these are conditions that the court has cited in its ruling and it has been handed over to the Probation Service to evaluate during the contact”, said Haxhia to the journalists./p.s./
