TIRANA, Nov 9 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has voiced concern about the soaring prices, stating that wages and pensions remain too low to cover the basic needs.

In a post on social media, Tabaku stated that inflation has severely affected Albanian families, raising food prices and basic products by 55%, which she referred to as “socialist inflation.”

“You buy dairy products, meat, vegetables, and essentials at a higher price every day,” she said, adding that 40% of household income goes to food, while the rest covers increased bills for energy and water, as well as daily rent expenses.

Tabaku also addressed the “growing gap between basic expenses and pensions,” which, as she stated, “fail to cover even a tenth of the daily needs of pensioners.”

According to her, pensioners have been affected the most by the current economic crisis. The deputy stated that the economic model needs to be changed.

“Tabaku stated that the economic model needs to be reformed to prioritize sectors like Education and Healthcare, incentivize industries that are languishing such as Agriculture rather than provide conditions for construction fueled by illicit money to thrive.”
