TIRANA, Aug 27 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku raised concerns about the historic depreciation of the euro this summer, stressing that this phenomenon is not related to traditional economic factors such as tourism or agriculture.

According to Tabaku, reports released by INSTAT and the Ministry of Finance show that the only sector recording economic growth is construction, a sector that is attracting direct foreign investments, which is most cases go to purchase of immovable properties.

Tabaku says that this development points to money laundering in the construction sector, a phenomenon that does not reflect the interests of honest citizens and does not contribute to the development of the real economy.

Tabaku points out that Albanian producers and farmers are being punished, as the devaluation of the euro has made Albanian products more expensive abroad.

“On the other hand, it is penalising the honest people. Production today is being penalized. Albanian farm and agriculture products today are being penalized because they are sold abroad more expensively and literally disrupting the domestic market. In result, the Albanian economy today relies on imports and import products,” she adds.

The MP calls for a new economic model, which distributes wealth at all levels and does not rely only on the construction sector, which she says has become the magnet for corruption and money laundering.
