TIRANA, Feb 27 /ATA/ – The Ministry of Finance sold 7.16 billion leks worth of one-year Treasury bills (T-bills) at this week’s auction, down from its 10.5 billion leks target, data from the central bank showed.

According to the Bank of Albania, the average weighted yield on the 12-month T-bills stood at 2.43%, largely unchanged from the previous auction.

The central bank said the unchanged yield levels reflect favourable liquidity conditions in the banking system, lower government borrowing needs in the domestic market and reduced risk premia, linked to a decline in public debt and an improved sovereign credit rating.

Yields on 12-month Treasury bills remain below the central bank’s key policy rate and are down on a year-on-year basis. A year earlier, the yield on 12-month paper stood at 2.77%, the data showed.

TIRANA, Dec 31 /ATA/ – Albania sold 6.15 billion lek in 12-month treasury bills at its latest auction, with yields remaining at low levels, the central bank said on Wednesday.

The Bank of Albania said the average interest rate on the 12-month bills remained subdued, reflecting favourable liquidity conditions in the banking system.

At the final auction of 2025, demand reached 6.65 billion lek, exceeding the amount sold, according to central bank data.

The weighted average yield stood at 2.44%, unchanged from the previous auction. The central bank said the outcome reflected ample banking sector liquidity, lower government financing needs in the domestic market and reduced risk premiums linked to a decline in public debt and an improved sovereign credit profile.

By comparison, yields on 12-month treasury bills stood at 2.76% at the end of 2024.

Lower T-bill yields also imply cheaper borrowing costs in the local currency, supporting bank lending, while allowing the government to finance domestic debt at a lower cost.

TIRANA, Oct 15 /ATA/ – The Bank of Albania announced that it sold 8.97 billion lek in 12-month Treasury bills at an average yield of 2.54% at its latest auction, marking a slight decline from the previous yield of 2.57% recorded a month ago.

Investor interest in the short-term debt instrument remained strong, with 17 bids submitted for a total of approximately 14.4 billion lek. However, only 11 bids were accepted, totaling 8.97 billion lek.

The decline in yields follows the central bank’s July 9 decision to cut its key interest rate to 2.50% from 2.75%, a move aimed at easing monetary conditions amid subdued inflation and supporting lending.

Lower T-bill yields translate into cheaper domestic borrowing costs for the government, while also contributing to more affordable credit in local currency, which may further support bank lending and economic activity.

TIRANA, June 12 /ATA/ – Albania’s Ministry of Finance sold 7 billion lek worth of one-year Treasury bills (T-bills) at the last auction, the Bank of Albania said on Thursday.

According to central bank, the weighted yield on the 12-month T-bills came in at 2.74% in the first auction in June, slightly up from 2.73% in the previous auction, but maintaining a downward trend compared to June 2024, when it was nearly 0.58 percentage points higher.

Six-month T-bill yields also declined slightly to 2.62%, down from 2.63% in May 2025.

Nearly 7 billion lekë in T-bills were sold out of a total bid of around 8 billion lekë.

According to central bank, the 12-month T-bill yield serves as an important benchmark for lending rates in local currency, particularly for long-term loans, which are typically priced based on this yield plus a fixed margin.

Central bank data show that the average weighted yield on T-bills fell to 2.7 % from 2.73 % at the previous auction in the second week of March.

At the latest auction, central bank said that the Ministry of Finance purchased 12 billion lek in government securities from a total bid of 12.6 billion lek.

Adequate liquidities and the increased demand from the investors to purchase the government securities have contributed to the decline of yield on T-bills.

Low yield on government securities is also driven by the monetary policy pursued by the Bank of Albania this year, with its base interest rate at 2.75 %, among the lowest in Europe.

TIRANA, Jan 30 /ATA/ – The yield on the 12-month treasury bills (T-bills) slightly increased in the latest auction on Tuesday, the Bank of Albania said on Thursday.

Data from central bank show that the average yield on the 12-month T-bills slightly increased to 2.81% from 2.78% in the previous auction a week ago.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy sold a total of 10.5 billion lek worth of one-year Treasury bills at the auction two days ago.

Central bank notes that yield on the government securities is lower than its 3% key interest rate.

The decline in the yield on the T-bills and other government securities reflect the improved liquidity in the financial market, the fall of the inflationary pressure on the country’s economy, the increased lending to the national economy, as well as the low key interest rate on the national currency Lek.

Lending to economy rose 14% year-on-year, recording highest growth in the last decade.

T- bills are debt securities issued by the government, represented by the Ministry of Finance. In Albania, treasury bills are issued with maturities of 3, 6 and 12 months.

TIRANA, Oct 30 /ATA/ – The yield on the 12-month treasury bills (T-bills) decreased in the latest auction this week, the Bank of Albania said on Wednesday.

Data from central bank show that the average yield on the 12-month T-bills slightly fell to 3% from 3.02 in the previous auction almost two weeks ago and down from 3.75% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy sold a total of 11.1 billion lek worth of one-year Treasury bills, up from an initial bid of 8 billion lek at an auction on Tuesday.

The decline in the yield on the T-bills and other government securities reflect the improved liquidity in the financial market, the fall of the inflationary pressure on the country’s economy, as well as the low key interest rate on the national currency Lek.

The fall in yield on the government securities also determines the borrowing costs of the private sector. Lower cost of Lek-denominated loans is likely to keep the credit performance for the economy at high levels.

TIRANA, May 15 /ATA/ – The yield on the 12-month treasury bills (T-bills) decreased in the latest auction this week.

According to data from the Bank of Albania, the average yield on the 12-month T-bills fell to 3.54% from 3.66% in the previous auction or from 3.75% last year.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy sold a total of 11.9 billion lek worth of one-year Treasury bills, up from an initial bid of 8 billion lek at an auction this week, data from the central bank show.

The decline in the yield on the T-bills and other government securities reflect the improved liquidity in the financial market, the fall of the inflationary pressure on the country’s economy, as well as the low key interest rate on the national currency Lek.

The fall in yields on the government securities also determines the borrowing costs of the private sector. Lower cost of Lek-denominated loans is likely to keep the credit performance for the economy at high levels.

Commercial banks in Albania disbursed a total of 82.8 billion lek in new loans to economy in the first quarter of 2024, up by 30% compared to the same period of the previous year.
