TIRANA, Feb 24 /ATA/ At the “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospital, two advanced heart surgeries were successfully performed using highly complex minimally invasive techniques.
On Monday, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, announced that the surgical procedures were carried out on a 45-year-old patient, who received replacements for the mitral valve, aortic valve, and ascending aorta through hemisternotomy, and on a 55-year-old patient, who underwent replacement of the aortic root and ascending aorta (Bentall procedure), also via hemisternotomy.

Koçi stated that “In both cases, the small incision (7-8 cm) and the uncomplicated postoperative recovery facilitated the quick recovery of the patients, allowing them to be discharged from the hospital within five days after the surgery.”

“Now, at this hospital, minimally invasive techniques are applied not only for standard surgeries but also for combined interventions, resulting in a significant improvement in patient care,” said Minister Koçiu.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection also expressed her gratitude to the surgical team who performed these two highly complex operations: Dr. Albi Fagu, Dr. Ketion Menkshi, Dr. Marjeta Bilaj, and Dr. Anri Gongo. /j.p/sm/
