TIRANA, Sept 9 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama vowed Monday to increase his ruling Socialist Party base to around one million active supporters by 2030.

Addressing an open meeting with applicants, who wish to run as candidates for members of parliament on behalf of the ruling Socialist Party via the party’s online portal “the MP We Want,” PM Rama noted that the most recent SP membership data show that the party has around 100 000 active members.

However, the government head underlined that the more than 700 000 Albanian voters currently back the ruling party.

“With the Albanian outside the country now having the right to vote in elections, it is now our ambition that the Socialist Party becomes the political party of around one million active voters and supporters by 2030, which will certainly take time, but which will show our increased power of representation starting next general elections,” PM Rama said.

The Premier underlined that there is a big difference in the number of 100 000 party members and over 700 000 active supporters, adding that more should be done to enhance party’s active membership.

TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ – Around 50,000 Albanian fans are expected to attend Saturday’s game as the national side will take on the defending champions Italy in Group B of UEFA Euro 2024 due to be played in Dortmund, the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) reported Thursday citing UEFA sources and German authorities.

According to ESPN Albania’s supporters represent the largest travelling contingent of any team other than host nation during the European championship in Germany.

Although Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund’s home stadium, regularly holds over 81,000 spectators for club fixtures, the venue will have a reduced capacity of 62,000 during Euro 2024 and UEFA sources have said that huge numbers of neutral section tickets for the Group B opener have been bought by Albanian fans.

Many Albanian residents in Germany have purchased tickets for the country’s first game in Euro 2024, while reigning European champions Italy are expected to be backed by fewer than 10,000 supporters due to the vast majority of tickets being bought by Albania supporters.

TIRANA, Dec 12 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha, on the 33rd anniversary of the main opposition party, called on all his party supporters to join DP, saying their contribution will be duly praised.

“All the founders and contributors and every other individual who thinks that the centre-right is their political family, but who for various reasons haven’t felt home over these years, join the Democratic Party of Albania,” Basha said in his message.

He invited them to join the party and provide valuable contribution just like they have done in the early years of political pluralism in Albania.

In a video-message, Basha said that DP was a party of its founders, the party of student activists in the December Movement, it is a party of the former politically persecuted people and former landowners, a part of Euro-Atlantic values and national interest of Albanians.

TIRANA, May 29 /ATA/ –By I. Vata/ – The Chairman of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha vowed to continue the battle against what he termed as “electoral massacre” as he addressed a campaign meeting for the party’s leadership with his supporters in the north-eastern towns of Mat and Bulqiza on Saturday.

DP leader said in his remarks that change was the main opposition party’s mission and vowed to press ahead with his mission to victory.

“Democratic Party entered elections totally aware we were running in a completely unequal race, a battle having nothing to do with the democracy rules. We entered the race facing a political opponent that treated the process as an electoral massacre carefully prepared in details. The government used entire state’s arsenal, the state budget and the corruption and organized crime proceeds against Albanian citizens and the DP voters in particular. In your eyes, I see anger and resentment at this injustice perpetrated not only against democrats, but also against Albania and Albanians. But your outrage should be the source of our strength,” Basha told his DP supporters.

Basha referred to the April 25 parliamentary elections as “unequal” but reiterated that it made Democrats stronger.
