TIRANA, January 26/ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani stated today that our country has a project to strengthen the Albanian passport, i.e. for the Albanian citizens to enjoy visa-free travel in more countries.

In an interview on the “Opinion” broadcast on Television, where he talked about strengthening the Albanian passport, which ranks 42nd in the world, Hasani said that, “We must completely change the perception on the use of the Albanian passport in the world. And this is not something said only politically, but it is something that should be done pragmatically”.

“We have a certain project. We have a definite plan. We have a certain logic”, said Hasani.

“In 1991, Albania was the country that had the weakest passport in the world”, emphasized Hasani.

He said that Serbia or other similar countries have a completely different relationship compared to Albania.

“This is the reason that we are trying to reduce this obvious gap as much as possible through a crystal clear plan. There are many influencing factors. They are not only the factors of eternal bilateral relations, but there are also reasons related to the economic development and tourism development of the country. It is the best moment for Albania, which has become a tourist destination, to make the most of this potential so that the Albanians, its citizens should travel as tourists, but also as potential business partners with companies from different countries”, said Hasani.

Speaking about African continent, Hasani said that Albania has only one embassy in Egypt, while it is expected to open an embassy in Kenya soon.

“This is something concrete and I believe that we will open the embassy in Kenya very soon. Nairobi is one of the 4 headquarters of the UN. It is near Ethiopia, where the African Union is located and it will create a completely different dynamic in relations with many African countries”, he said.

Hasani added that, “We must align the list of visa-free countries with the EU”./p.s./
